Contract talks for Eagles draft pick Maclin

Agent Jim Steiner said that no contentious issues have arisen in talks with the Eagles over a contract for first-round draft choice Jeremy Maclin, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

Maclin was drafted 19th overall and is due to report to Lehigh for training camp with other Eagles rookies Sunday afternoon.

Steiner said the fact that the players selected right around Maclin haven't signed yet won't keep him from reaching agreement on a pact for the wideout from Missouri, who was projected to go much higher than he was taken.

Eli Manning is still in line to get one of the most lucrative contracts in NFL history, but according to the New York Daily News, he is just going to have to wait a little longer than expected.

Manning and the Giants remain far apart in their negotiations on a new deal, according to two NFL sources with knowledge of the talks.

According to one source, Manning's agents "want to make him the highest-paid player."

Another source suggested the Super Bowl XLII MVP's initial asking price was up near an average of $20 million per year.

Packers general manager Ted Thompson stuck with his self-imposed rule of neither confirming nor denying contract negotiations.

Thompson does retain and reward talented players, especially those who have been with the team long enough to be proven and trusted veterans.
