Jack Del Rio fires 19th assistant coach

Defensive line coach Ted Monachino became the 19th assistant to be fired by coach Jack Del Rio during his seven-year tenure, acording to the Florida Times-Union.

Monachino was replaced by veteran coach Joe Cullen.

Cullen coached at Idaho State last year after being with the Detroit Lions the three previous seasons. He was arrested twice in a week in 2006 and suspended for a game by the Lions and the league and fined $20,000.

Colts add to coaching staff

According to the Indianapolis Star, the Colts have added two interns to coach Jim Caldwell's staff.

Ron Johnson will work with the receivers while Frank Winters is working with the offensive line.

Johnson, 28, spent the 2002-03 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens and played in the Arena Football League the past two seasons. He will assist Clyde Christensen, the team's receivers coach/assistant head coach, who assumed coordinator responsibilities after Tom Moore's retirement.

Winters, 48, was an offensive lineman in the NFL for 16 seasons, the final 11 (1992-2002) with Green Bay. He will work under Pete Metzelaars, who has filled Howard Mudd's void.

Caldwell added it was premature to speculate that Moore and Mudd would return as consultants.

Moore and Mudd would not be eligible to return for a minimum of six months, according to the NFL Coaches Association's executive director, which would mean November at the earliest.
