Parker's bad shoulder

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Steelers running back Willie Parker may need surgery on his injured shoulder after the season, but he's likely to play against the San Diego Chargers.

Parker has a torn labrum in his shoulder, which occurred last Monday night in Washington, when he ran 21 times for 70 yards.

This makes his third significant injury. His fibula was broken in the 15th game last season, and a sprained knee in the third game this season kept him out until last Monday.

Steelers injury update

According to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, the Steelers will be without running back Willie Parker (sprained knee), nose tackle Casey Hampton (strained groin) and defensive end Brett Keisel (strained calf) when they visit the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

With Kendall Simmons out for the season because of a ruptured Achilles tendon, Darnell Stapleton and Trai Essex will compete this week in practice for the starting job at right guard.

Tomlin did not rule out the possibility of moving starting right tackle Willie Colon inside and inserting Max Starks at right tackle. But, for now Tomlin stated that Stapleton and Essex are the Steelers' options at right guard.

Willie Parker is out and Rashard Mendenhall is in

The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Rashard Mendenhall in the first round as insurance in case Willie Parker wasn't the same after his fibula was broken in the 15th game last season.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Mendenhall, who didn't have a run from scrimmage in the past two games, will make his first NFL start Monday night against the Baltimore Ravens.

Parker has a sprained left knee that likely will keep him out for at least the next two games.

Ben Roethlisberger is healthy

According to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, Ben Roethlisberger is relatively healthy even though he was sacked eight times and left last Sunday's game in the fourth quarter after getting his hand stepped on.

That's good news since running back Willie Parker (knee), nose tackle Casey Hampton (groin), defensive end Brett Keisel (calf) and outside linebacker Donovan Woods (hamstring) have been ruled out for the Steelers' game against the Ravens on Monday night at Heinz Field.
