Cribbs' deal with Browns worth up to $20 million

The Cleveland Browns signed Pro Bowl returner Josh Cribbs to a three-year deal worth up to $20 million on Friday, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported.

The deal replaces the three years that remained on his previous contract and includes about $7.5 million guaranteed, the newspaper reported.

"It's a win-win for everyone involved,'' agent Peter Schaffer told the Plain Dealer. "It's a great statement by the new regime. It shows that the Browns are committed to winning -- and that they were willing to take care of their best player.''

Josh Cribbs feels his days with Browns are over

Browns Pro Bowl all-purpose star Josh Cribbs cleaned out his locker and said his goodbyes to some people, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Cribbs said a trade request will come next.

Cribbs, who has three years remaining on his contract at just over $1 million a year, was given a $1.4 million a year offer.

"I'm not just insulted by the number, but by the fact they consider me just a kick returner," Cribbs said.

Josh Cribbs to report to minicamp

Browns receiver Josh Cribbs will report to voluntary minicamp today after skipping the first camp last week, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Cribbs missed all three voluntary practices last week because he wanted to speak with the Browns about a new contract.

He has four years remaining on a six-year, $6.77 million contract and is looking for a deal similar to the four-year, $40 million contract receiver Devin Hester signed with the Chicago Bears last off-season.

Cribbs' agent J.R. Rickert stated that his client will ask to be traded if the Browns tell him they won't redo his deal. In addition to playing on offense and special teams, Cribbs is working at strong safety and could challenge for the nickel-back role.

Josh Cribbs could skip minicamp

Browns receiver Josh Cribbs plans to boycott the team's voluntary minicamp this week unless progress is made on his contract, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Cribbs, who made the Pro Bowl last season, signed a six-year extension in 2007, which is reportedly worth $6 million, including $2 million guaranteed.

Former Browns general manager Phil Savage promised Cribbs in training camp last season that the team would take care of him this offseason.

After Savage was fired, Cribbs received a call from Browns owner Randy Lerner saying that the team would still fulfill the promise. But Cribbs has made no progress with the new regime of coach Eric Mangini and general manager George Kokinis.
