Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder expects to be on the free agent market next week.

According to the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel, general manager Jeff Ireland and vice president of football operations Bill Parcells want an idea of what Crowder's market value is.

Crowder finished second on the team last season with a career-high 114 tackles. He hopes his value skyrockets and the Dolphins are forced to match.

Following a career-best 13-tackle performance in Sunday's 29-28 loss to the Texans, Channing Crowder tried to mask his frustration by joking about his meager NFL salary.

When addressing Owen Daniels' destructive four-catch performance again the Dolphins, Crowder pointed out the tight end gets paid more.

Crowder is in his fourth season as a starter for the Dolphins. The Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel reports that he is receiving a base salary of $1 million in the final year of a contract he signed as a third-round pick in 2005.

The Dolphins have taken a wait-and-see approach to determine if Crowder can be the type of playmaker and leader needed before offering a more lucrative contract.

That study could take the entire season, which means that Crowder is not only auditioning for the Dolphins, but every other team in the NFL.
