Texans target Benson

After signing left defensive end Antonio Smith and backup quarterback Dan Orlovsky, the Houston Chronicle reports that the Houston Texans are targeting running back Cedric Benson.

The Texans seek a back to play behind Steve Slaton and they are bringing in Benson for a visit.

Benson, who was drafted by Chicago with the fourth overall pick in 2005, rushed for 747 yards in 10 starts with Cincinnati last season.

Bengals acquire Benson

The Bengals signed free agent halfback Cedric Benson and placed halfback DeDe Dorsey on the reserve/injured list, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Benson, 5 feet 11 and 220 pounds, is a fourth-year NFL player. He was the Chicago Bears' first-round selection in the 2005 draft after a Texas career that included 5,540 rushing yards and the third-most touchdowns (64) in NCAA history.

Critics say he never played up to his potential with the Bears, and recent brushes with the law in Texas are said to have contributed to his release.
