Kampman, Harris both suffer injuries to knees

On two plays that could turn the Packers' potentially promising season on its ear, linebacker Aaron Kampman and cornerback Al Harris suffered torn anterior cruciate ligaments in their left knees, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Neither injury was confirmed by the team, but a league source affirmed that the preliminary diagnosis was the dreaded ACL tear and that MRIs will be taken to confirm the results.

Bills right guard Wood breaks leg

The Buffalo News reports the Bills' offensive line suffered a devastating blow Sunday as rookie right guard Eric Wood sustained a compound fracture of the tibia and fibula in the fourth quarter of an 18-15 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Wood was taken to a Jacksonville hospital, where he had immediate season-ending surgery. It is not known when he will be able to travel back to Buffalo.

The offensive line also lost left guard Seth McKinney to a torn meniscus in his left knee in the third quarter.

McKinney, who also was hurt earlier in the game, said he wasn't sure how serious the tear is or if surgery would be needed to repair it.

Betts, Rinehart suffer serious injuries

Running back Ladell Betts suffered left MCL damage in the first quarter, and right guard Chad Rinehart suffered a fractured right fibula in the third quarter of the Redskins' 7-6 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

Already without starters Clinton Portis and Randy Thomas at those two positions, the Redskins will move to their third tailback and fifth right guard next week at Philadelphia.

According to the Washington Times, Betts will undergo an MRI and Zorn ruled out Portis for the Philadelphia game. The Redskins might sign another running back to provide depth.

Cards top Rams, but Warner hurt

The Cardinals came out hot in the first half and took a 21-3 lead, but in the second half the Rams came back.

The Arizona Republic reports that Kurt Warner didn't play in the second half after suffering a head injury - most likely a concussion.

The Cardinals' offense did little under backup Matt Leinart, and the defense did its part in keeping the Rams' hopes alive, failing to shut down an anemic offense.

The biggest concern now is Warner's condition. After the game, he said he had a slight headache but did not lose consciousness or memory.

Roethlisberger's condition to be determined

According to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, the team is waiting for medical tests to determine whether Ben Roethlisberger's head injury in Sunday's overtime loss will keep him out of the showdown with the Baltimore Ravens.

Coach Mike Tomlin said Roethlisberger sustained a "concussion-oriented thing."

Tomlin also said Roethlisberger probably would not have returned to the game if the Steelers had taken possession again.

'Foggy' Portis to sit out again

The Washington Times reports that Redskins running back Clinton Portis will sit out for the second straight game, as Portis is still apparently feeling the effects of a concussion suffered against the Atlanta Falcons on Nov. 8.

Coach Jim Zorn said in the article that Portis is still unable to practice. Until he can practice with the team, allowing Zorn to evaluate his progress, Zorn will hold him out of the game as a precautionary measure.

"I want to see him practice, and I want to see him have those days where when he practices he doesn't have residual problems," Zorn said, as quoted in the article.

Zorn said Portis "is just foggy enough" to warrant holding him out of practice.

Shanahan, Cowher on radar for Bills coaching job?

The Buffalo News reports that the Bills are conducting a "comprehensive" search for a new head coach and might be willing to shell out top dollar for a big name.

That could include the likes of Bill Cowher , Mike Shanahan , Mike Holmgren or Brian Billick , although the story notes that the team has yet to contact any of those former NFL coaches about a vacancy. It's also possible that the process will be a long one, since any big-name coaching candidate considering the Bills job could decide to wait until the end of the season to see what other opportunities may open up.

Former Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden is believed to be out of the running for a coaching position for the near future due to his recent signing of a new deal with ESPN to remain a TV analyst.

The Bills fired head coach Dick Jauron after 3 1/2 seasons with the franchise on Nov. 17.

Polamalu's injury a taboo subject

The Pittsburgh Tribune Review reports that Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu was not allowed to speak to the media about his injury on Wednesday after showing up at practice wearing a large leg brace.

Polamalu did not participate in practice on Wednesday.

Steelers team spokesman Dave Lockett informed the media that Polamalu would not answer any questions regarding the injury, which is expected to keep him out of the Steelers' game against the Chiefs this week and had ben previously reported as a PCL sprain.

Texans not interested in Larry Johnson

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Texans decided against pursuing RB Larry Johnson as a boost to their running game, which currently ranks No. 27 in the league.

Johnson was waived by the Kansas City Chiefs on Nov. 9 after serving a two-week suspension for using gay slurs and criticizing Chiefs coach Todd Haley. The Texans cited faith in their current running backs and concerns about disrupting team chemistry as their reasons for passing on Johnson.

"We took all the factors into consideration -- football, off-the-field issues, and we determined that it wasn't a good fit for us at this time," Texans GM Rick Smith said, as quoted by McClain. "We've got confidence in our backs. When we come back from our open date, we expect big things out of them."

Houston also took a look at RB Edgerrin James after the veteran RB was released by the Seahawks last week, but opted to pass on him, too.

Safety Ryan Clark participated fully in practice, but is listed as questionable and not expected to play because of health concerns.

Concussion shelves Redskins' Portis

On Sunday, Clinton Portis left the game against the Atlanta Falcons with a concussion and became the Redskins' fourth starter - and third 2008 Pro Bowl pick - to be sidelined, according to the Washington Times.

Portis suffered the concussion when he and Atlanta safety Thomas DeCoud banged helmets late in the first quarter. Portis was on the turf for a couple of minutes before being helped to his feet.

Pro Bowl left tackle Chris Samuels (neck) is done for the season and maybe for his career. Pro Bowl tight end Chris Cooley (ankle) is not supposed to return before Week 13 at Philadelphia. And right guard Randy Thomas is done for the year and perhaps his career with a torn triceps.

Bills could sign Michael Vick

Michael Vick could potentially wind up in Buffalo, according to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.

The Eagles signed Vick to a $1.6 million contract for and Philadelphia has the option to keep him for a second year at $5.2 million.

But, Vick has not been the weapon that some people expected him to be for the team and could be a free agent after this season.

Delhomme hospitalized, but expects to play

The Charlotte Observer reports that quarterback Jake Delhomme was taken to a hospital during the fourth quarter of Sunday's 34-21 victory against the Arizona Cardinals.

He later said that he thinks he will be able to play next week when the Carolina Panthers play New Orleans in the Superdome.

Darnell Dockett slammed into Delhomme as he threw a short pass to fullback Brad Hoover in the third quarter.

Delhomme was on the ground in pain for a few moments, before leaving the game.

Jets Slash 2010 Ticket Prices

Because of the economic crisis, the New York Jets announced that they would be dropping season ticket prices for one club section in the new stadium next year.

CNBC reports that the Jets will target one section of the stadium, the Mezzanine Club, which represents about 10 percent of the seats.

The gameday ticket prices to those seats, which previously cost between $400 and $500, will now be dropped by as much as 50 percent, depending on location.

In reality, the total discount is not that deep as the Jets are not changing the personal seat license fee of $5,000 on those seats.

The team said those who already have purchased Mezzanine Club seats will be able to get their seats at the newly discounted rate.

Ted Ginn Jr. could be headed to Dolphins bench

Dolphins coach Tony Sparano sent a clear message to his corps of pass catchers when he essentially reopened the competition for the team's starting spots.

According to the Miami Herald, wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. did not work with the first- or second-team offense during the initial 30 minutes of practice that is open to the media. Those limited snaps were assigned to Davone Bess, Greg Camarillo and rookie Brian Hartline.

At the beginning of the week, the staff decided Hartline would see an increased role on offense.
